How to Relieve Joint Pain
- Apply cold pressure to the painful joint. If you feel a steady pain in a joint, apply ice every hour, for fifteen minutes. The following day, apply the ice for fifteen minutes four to five times through out the day.
- Take a hot bath or shower. Take a long hot bath to relax your entire body. If you take a hot shower try to get the stream directly on the joint that feels pain.
- Get a massage. A popular treatment for back pain, a deep massage can help to relieve joint pain too!
- Take a pain reliever. There are a variety of over the counter medications that address joint pain. The classic is Acetaminophen, but there are many other products available as well.
- Try a natural remedy. The traditional fold remedy for joint pain is a drink made with two teaspoons of honey and apple cider vinegar twice a day.
- Lose some weight. If you suffer from regular pain in your joints, especially your legs, knees, and ankles, loosing some weight will go a long way in relieving joint pain. Be careful to stretch and not to overexert yourself.
- Seek medical help. If you suffer from serious joint pain, visit a physical therapist or chiropractor. These medical professionals have the skills and knowledge to effectively relieve joint pain.
- Use a mobility aid. If you suffer from lack of mobility due to joint pain, a cane, walker, or electric mobility scooter can help increase movement.
- Eat a joint healthy diet. Studies have shown that diets high in protein are most important to healthy joints. Diets high in glucosamine, and green vegetables and fresh fruits all work to keep your joints pain free. Be sure to drink plenty of water. Some joint healthy vegetables are broccoli, spinach, and flax seed.
